Softball

We actually dropped to No. 6 in last week's espn.com/USA poll after being tied with Alabama for No. 5 the previous week. And this after going 4-0 and outscoring our opponents 44-0.

A new poll will come out later today (or tomorrow). I expect to see us leap-frog Bama and maybe one or two others. LSU will be the new No. 1 and we'll be playing them soon (at LSU). Can't wait.

Check out this lineup.

Nicole Pendley .408 5 Hrs
Lauren Chamberlain .508 14 Hrs and 43 RBIs
Shelby Pendley .400 10 Hrs and 29 RBIs
Erin Miller .418 4 Hrs 5 Triples and 26 RBIs
Paige Parker .483 6 Hrs and 24 RBIs
Kady Self .500 4 Hrs 19 RBIs
Whitney Ellis .368 8 Doubles
Jessica Vest .563 2 Hrs 13 RBIs
Kelsey Arnold .288
Tori Nirschl .526
Macey Hatfield .345 3 Hrs 9 RBIs

Again, they are hitting .410 as a team through 25 games.
That is imposing! I just looked at the Big Twelve stats. For players with at least twenty at bats, the batting average ranks are:

508 Chamberlain, OU
500 Self, OU
500 Nirschi, OU
493 Cargill, BU
483 Parker, OU
465 Davis, OSU
442 Bettiol, TT
418 Miller, Erin OU
416 Gomez, IS
411 Evans, KU
408 Pendley,, Nicole, OU
405 Brickey, KU
400 Thomey, TT
400 Mikkelson, OSU
400 Pendley, Shelby, OU
400 Landrith, BU

Of the top 16 in the conference, 7 are from OU.

Lauren has 61 at bats and 25 walks. They are very reluctant to pitch to her.

It was funny yesterday. They hit Lauren and walked her a couple of times. Shelby kept hitting home runs behind the hit batsman and walks.

Iowa in the first against Shelby:
grounder to short
line drive caught by Hatfield at 2B on a diving play to her right
fly to left

bottom of first
Nicole grounded to second
Lauren walked, caught stealing (this was walk #171 to take the career lead from Keilani)
Shelby walked
Parker fouls to catcher

top second
grounder to frst
grounder to short
foul to catcher

bottom second
Self grounds to second
Erin Miller walked
Ellis popped to third
Vest grounds to pitcher

Both teams had a single in the third, but Shelby drove in Nicole with ours, 1-0 after three.

Well, they won't pitch to Lauren, and she has bailed them out a couple of times by swinging at 3-0 pitches for grounders that she topped. But, Shelby just hit her eight HR this weekend, and OU leads 8-0 in the fourth.

Paige drives a HR to left center. 9-0.

Shelby has hit home runs in five straight games, an OU record.

Paige relieved Pendley.

OU softball plays Wichita State in Wichita tonight at 6 pm.

I tried to find a website that tracked the Div I NCAA softball teams, but all I could find was the rankings of same. How good is Wichita State this year? In years past, they have been pretty good, IIRC...

Or maybe I am getting WSU softball confused with WSU baseball...

I think the Shockers got to be pretty good under Tim Walton, before he went to Fla.

Here is schedule and results:

Looks like they are pretty good. Have beaten the whorns once in Austin, Nebraska, osu and Stanford. So, we'll need to be fully prepared!

I cant find any coverage for the Wichita St. game. Anybody know of any: radio, tv, video, internet???

TV requires a subscription. But, the radio is free.

OU went out in order in the first. Wichita State loaded the bases, but that was it.

Chamberlain and Pendley with back to back doubles, score 3-2 with Pendley at 3rd, one out. Paige Parker at bat, RBI ground out, now 4-2. 2 out...

Shockers down in order, OU at bat in the top of the 6th. Sooners get a runner on, but picked off, for out 3.

Going to the bottom of the 6th, 4-2 OU lead.
