Thoughts on Assistants

Moser is off to a great start.....I'm liking this hire more and more every day!

KT Turner's dad was a great player for Southwestern State in the late 60's and early 70's. He was an Air Force veteran who came to SW as a 23-year old freshman. He was the point guard for some great small college teams that featured players like Amos Thomas, Archie McGill, and Lloyd Lacey.
Ken Turner was one of the best people I have ever known. Over 20 years later, when he was an assistant at OCU, he remembered me although we never had any contact after I graduated in 1971.
My brother was a sports reporter who most of you would know. Every time he ran into Ken he would ask about me.
He later was an assistant at Oklahoma State before becoming assistant at Ohio State. That is where he died suddenly.
While at SW, Ken met and married Margaret who was from Mangum. So KT has solid Oklahoma roots.
If I'm not mistaken, Ken played against Tommy Griffin who played for Northwestern State at Alva.

We definitely got our "Texas guy," but honestly...I want all the Texas ties we can get. We can be a Sweet 16 team every year just recruiting Oklahoma, Dallas, and Houston. I think one Loyola guy that is familiar with him and hopefully has some midwest ties makes sense, but I want the rest to be more hires like this.

another name popped up Emanuel Dildy at northwestern being mentioned to joining the staff

Would make sense. Currently with Northwestern but has ties to Loyola Chicago/Moser as an assistant and knows the chicago recruiting area well.

I'm with you as opposed to Chicago dudes

Would this be a good hire?

he was with Moser at Loyola from 2013-16 so he helped build some of the team that went to the final four in 2018. he is a chicago area guy, could help with recruiting in that area, so i would say it reads like a solid hire.

I’m all for overpaying Q or HP as an assistant, both if they want to come as a duo. Recruiting Texas is a major key to our success as a program. Whatever it takes to fill that void!

I’m not a Shepherd fan! I remember what a jerk he was in throwing his weight around with Garyeb2 to put an end to our practice reports. He would be the last assistant on my list I would want to keep from the current staff.

Mike Shepard is a great guy! He and his family love being in Norman so he would stay if asked.

Yes, I know now I was unfair to judge Mike Shepherd by one small incident at OU’s practice sessions several years ago. For one thing, I only got one side of the story.

Sooner04 corrected my error yesterday. Your endorsement of Coach Shepherd is further evidence that I made a mistake. Thanks, vbdad!

Multiple sources confirm to @SoonerScoop that Emanuel Dildy (Northwestern) will be another assistant for #Sooners under Porter Moser. @Sean02MTM had it first.

Dildy coached with Moser in the past at Loyola, too.

Coach, what’s your thoughts on Turner?

Was he the main reason TX got Greg Brown?

Homer. On my keys Texas guy was up there.

I haven’t followed who recruited who. I’ll take your word.

So Turner as #1 Assistant with Texas recruiting ties, Big 12 experience, junior college knowledge, and Oklahoma roots.

Dildy as Assist #2 with an understanding of Moser's culture/schemes, recruiting ties to Midwest (Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City), and focus on player development.

#3 as a recruiting coordinator who can engage with the players and develop big men?

Shepard to stay on as DOBO?
