Bruce Weber's unemployment didn't last long.

The former Illinois coach, who was let go by Illinois a few weeks ago, has been hired to replace Frank Martin at Kansas State, sources told CBSSports.com.

Weber will be introduced Saturday at 3 p.m. in Manhattan, Kansas.

Weber was 210-101 in his tenure at Illinois and 103-54 in five seasons at Southern Illinois. He replaces Frank Martin, who left for South Carolina after leading the Wildcats to four NCAA tournament appearances in five seasons.

Kansas State hiring Bruce Weber

Kansas State has hired Bruce Weber to be its next men's basketball coach, Weber told ESPN.com's Andy Katz Saturday.

Weber, who was fired March 9 after nine seasons at Illinois, is replacing Frank Martin, who left this week to become coach at South Carolina.

Kansas State has scheduled a 4 p.m. ET news conference.

Weber's deal with the Wildcats is for five years; financial terms were not disclosed.

Weber led the Illini to the 2005 NCAA title game, where they lost to North Carolina. He finished 210-101 at Illinois, trailing only Lou Henson and Harry Combes in wins at the school.

However, his teams were just 55-66 in the Big Ten the past six seasons, including 6-12 this season. The Illini closed the season 2-12.

Bruce Webber didn't think I was good enough to play at Illinois and I don't think he is good enough to coach at Kansas State

Continuing the kansas state tradition of hiring basketball coaches that excite no one.

Nothing excites a fan base quite like hiring a guy that just got fired for lack of performance.

I think most thought Huggins was a good hire, the rest, you are right.

He's an exception. His considerable baggage made him an option for ksu (and he bolted after one NCAA-less season anyway).

Most didn't think Martin was a good hire, but he did a great job at KSU. I don't think Weber is all that great a hire, but who was KSU going to get that was really any better?

No less exciting than a .500 coach from Washington State or an above average mid-major coach.

And actually... yeah, Snyder did generate a lot of excitement.

I'll give you Haith, but he's one guy. ksu's made a habit out of this for 30 years.

If I were a KSU fan, I would have much rather have taken a flyer on a low-major or mid-major that was having some success, heck, I'd rather have Wojick.

LOL at KSU. Kansas gets the guy making a step up from Illinois, KSU gets the guy ran out of town because he sucks from Illinois.

That's pretty much the history of the 2 programs isn't it? Especially since the 80s.

Don't know about Wojcik (didn't he just get fired from a mid-major?), but I agree on the low/mid-major route in general.

Weber was at a good program in a good conference. He left the program in worse shape than when he took over. Seems like we more or less know what Weber's capable of. I don't know what they expect to be different at ksu.
