Ok, Capel is in enough hot water now that most folks are talking about whether or not he is the guy for OU basketball.

What is the limit here? Is it set on number of games won? Or is set on progress? Will it be conference record? Or is there no limit? No matter what happens from this day on you don't think OU should go in a different direction?

At what point would YOU expect Joe C to make a coaching change?

For me, I will have to see where they are about midway through the conference season. If they havent won any games or only have one, I will expect them to make a change. Of course, if they only beat G-Webb, Sacramento State, and Central Arkansas and enter the Big 12 season with a an under .500 record in the non-conference slate I may change my opinion.

Right now I don't see any way he comes back. he has to finish 4-2 to enter big 12 play at .500. That doesn't seem possible right now and we damn sure wont be .500 or better in conference so it will be back to back losing season in a very long time. he has to go after this year and nothing short of a miracle will make me change my mind

it's not a magical number of wins for me.

I just watch this team play and it appears to me that coach is in over his head. They could still be losing and play better and I wouldn't feel so bad about our situation.

I thought they showed gumption the first game ... but there's no organization here apparently and they've faded awfully fast.

For me, it depends on how the team improves as the year goes along.

What I have seen so far is a team that won't win 10 games due to lack of talent and lack of fundamentals (especially defensively).

OU basketball deserves more than that, I know the fan base is small but the program has had too much success to see it reach this depth.

I think it would be a mistake to place a win expectation on this season. You knew (or should have known) this season wasn't going to be a great one. The talent just isn't there. Go by improvement. If the team improves (even if it doesn't necessarily translate into a decent record), give him another year. If not, move on with someone else.

Of course, I've been on the record since last spring that I thought it was past time for you to make a change (but completely understand why you can't just fire a coach one year removed from an elite eight and contract extension).

the problem is from what i have seen we have gotten worse since the Kentucky game.

If we don't win at least one of the next three games I believe I might go ahead and fire him.

This is a good question, I'm not completely sold on the idea of firing Capel and I'm not sure what W-L record would cause me to stop supporting coach, with that said I wasn't in favor of firing John Blake either, so what do I know.

I think this program needs a veteran assistant coach badly. Ben Betts is the only assistant coach with D1 experience and that was under Capel at VCU, and he is the only one with head coaching experience from his time at South Carolina St. I don't think Capel is getting much quality help from his assistants. If we're gonna cut someone loose I say it should start with an assistant to bring in another with more experience.

*Correction, Bryan Goodman was an assistant at Bucknell.

I agree that two inexperienced coaches is not a good thing for such a young team.
But, back to the main point here. First off, I am a Capel supporter and I think he gets another year unless the ship completely sinks. So my bottom line: We only win 1-2 Big XII games and look bad in the 14-15 losses. Other than that I think the contract is just too long to let him go now. We will be paying him forever. My support is fading fast. If he survives this year, which I thin kis a good possibility, he has to make the NCAA Tourney or he is done and I would support it.

Seriously? How could anyone support John Blake. I think it is funny he cried racism because if anything I would say fear of being accused a racist got the man support. Blake was the worst coach I have ever seen. Capel is teeing to take that title. When I say this I mean at OU

I am in the "Has to show improvement" crowd. I think we are going to be overmatched all year long. But DANG IT easy layups all game long has to stop! I know these guys can play defense. You don't make it their skill level without some basic understaning of how the game is played. It is the coach's job to build on the and work them together as a team. If we are still looking like a JV team at the end of the year I say make a change. If we are competing and working together better then I say he stays.

Hopefully at the end of this year unless we were to win more than 5 games in the Big 12 which I don't see us doing.

There is no way Capel is getting fired mid season despite people wanting it to happen. Fire him mid season and good luck getting the type of coach you want to see here when the season ends. Coaches do look at those things and whether or not it's a school they want to coach even if it's a step up from their current situation.

The more i think about it, two rebuilding years in a row is plenty...especially when the second is worse than the first...

This doesnt feel like we are rebuilding, feels like we are dropping off...
