'23 Coaching Carousel Thread

Washington, like Stanford, doesn't care about winning. I'm not a huge fan of firing guys after a year or two but after 4+ years of mediocrity, it's time to forge a new path. Washington's program is dead.

But did he not block in the car too of the victim? I def could be wrong. But in any case aiding and abetting or not can be a thin line. realize

i think this was rumored only his side says no and i would think if he did he would have been charged. ..

Beat me to it. Interesting hire. Was starting to turn Pacific around & been under some great programs. I’ve always liked him, hope he does well.

I can still remember him winning ROY. He was a fun player to watch.

It'll be interesting to see who he hires as assistants.

He was so freaking tough. Coming straight from the Celtics should widen his pool of selections on assistants.

Not sure if this specific tweet is accurate but Cooley to Georgetown is the current buzz

Whoa, Temple getting rid of alum, Aaron McKie, already. Temple was competitive this season. Just didn't have the horses.

According to the twitter/national guys..

Temple wants Matt Langel (Colgate HC). Notre Dame is also interested.

======

Bucknell is targeting George Halcovage (Villanova asst).

I was pulling for him, and they were playing better, but his tenure at Temple was not good. They could have kept him after two straight winning seasons in the AAC, but this was the worst 4-year stretch of basketball since before John Chaney. Temple has taken more lumps than they're used to in the AAC, but they went 13-5 or better in 3 of the 5 seasons before McKie took over.

WHOA. Congrats to KT.

That surprises me since he is HC in Waiting at UH and Kelvin has already admitted to being near the end of his career most likely.

What Kellen is going to bring to whatever school he ends up at is the ability to build a program that will sustain over time. He probably isn't a guy that shows up and transforms a program overnight. As such, I don't know that I understand going to a place like WSU.

But maybe he goes there, has success, then replaces PM at OU after next season. A man can certainly hope.

I can easily think of at least a million reasons he'd take the WSU job, as that's about how much I expect his salary to be increased. Kelvin may retire if he wins a national championship, but otherwise, I think he's looking at least 2-3 more years, which could easily turn into 5. Kellen has been an assistant there for almost a decade, so I can't imagine waiting another 5 years when you know you're as ready as you'll ever be.

As long as Kellen can maintain 20-25 win seasons at WSU, the UH job is likely his if he wants it in 3 years. That shouldn't be hard to do in the AAC, which is getting weaker and will artificially inflate their record. If he wasn't going to be able to do that at WSU, there's no way he was going to be able to keep his job long at UH in the Big XII. Given the time he's spent at UH already, it's unlikely a couple more years in the area will bolster his recruiting or help him grow as a coach. He can develop new recruiting relationships in Kansas and surrounding areas, and regardless of how well he does at WSU, he'll be better prepared to take over at UH.

The other benefit of WSU is that it would give him credibility for doing something outside of his father's shadow. It would give him more credibility with recruits and drive up his salary at UH. They may guarantee him the UH job after Kelvin retires, but that may only mean a 1M salary. A few 20-25 win season at WSU quickly bumps him up to 2M, and if he has a 30 win Sweet 16 year prior to Kelvin's retirement, he could take over at closer to the 4M price point his father is commanding.

OR…he wins at Wichita state and does very well. Then he takes the OU job and recruits like a boss from Houston to Kansas City, wins a national title at OU and changes the culture forever.
