AP Sources: Big 12 presidents decide to pass on expansion

Exactly what should have happened. Things (media-wise) are changing too fast these days. Just pay attention to what is going on and don't lock into anything.

I just hope there is a way we can get out of the conference before 8 more years or whatever it is.

And it is pretty ridiculous to have the championship game with only 10 teams. I understand their reasoning but don't agree with it and think it will cost the conference

I don't understand their reasoning one bit. I think it's the dumbest idea the University has agreed to since the Sooner Shockwave.

As I understand it, the primary reason for the conference championship football game is MONEY. Supposedly, each conference team will get an extra $3 million from a $30 million jackpot for the game. I find it hard to believe that the TV networks pay that much for one game. In any event, David Boren wants more MONEY for the University. That is his primary REASON for any action that he takes. More MONEY eventually leads to a higher academic standing for the University, at least in theory.

Another reason is the so-called "data point" reason: An extra game against good competition is an extra "data point" which MIGHT help a conference team get selected into the final-4. Of course, this could also knock-out a conference team from the playoffs if they lose the game.

I don't know. It appears to me that the powers at Oklahoma and Texas would be happy to remain in the Big-12 long-term as long as they don't fall behind the other big conferences in MONEY. BUT, they are falling behind.

As an OU football fan, it would be so much more entertaining for me to watch OU play Bama, LSU and Arkansas on an annual basis, as opposed to Baylor, Texas Tech and TCU. It would also be much more entertaining to play teams like Wisconsin, Nebraska and Michigan, as opposed to Iowa State, Kansas and Kansas State.

Change is coming. I hope I live long enough to see it.

Careful what you wish for... Going to the SEC, you wont be in the playoffs as much and wont win as many conf championships. Recruiting will be the same, texas and then a few other bigtime recruiting beds.

That is OK with me. Traveling to regular season games at Bama and Ohio State are just as good as Bowl trips, if not better. I greatly enjoy seeing firsthand my Sooners playing in big time stadiums, at big time Universities, on big time campuses. The more often we can do this, the better.

Win or lose, I would gladly travel every-other year to see a game at Tennessee. Lubbock, Waco and Fort Worth ... meh.

If OU joined the B1G or SEC, OU would be forced to upgrade their team. I think OU would do so. Sure, the number of conference championships would decrease, but those fewer championships would be worth something.

Winning B12 football championships is certainly a fine goal and accomplishment, but the B12 is no longer big time.

NOTE: I try to travel each year to a "big time" college football game, even if it does not include OU. In September I traveled to Lambeau Field to watch the LSU-Wisconsin game. I spent two glorious days in Madison to experience UW, and then 4 glorious days at a lake house (owned by a friend) in a beautiful area north of Green Bay. I saw everything there was to see in Green Bay. It was a blast. Better than most bowl game trips. It would have been even better if OU had been playing in the game, and the game was at Camp Randall. By comparison, the B12 is meh.

Same for Brigham Young, Cougar High, UConn, Cincinnati, USF, UCF, CSU, New Mexico, SMU, Rice, etc, etc begging to join dysfunctional Big 12....MO' MONEY!!!

Yes. Every University and conference has the same primary motivation.

i know people want to expand for football reasons ... but for basketball we have the perfect set up and one of the very very best leagues in the country ..

Yes, we do. I hate giant conferences.

I think Houston and Cincinnati or Louisville would be good additions. They are coming on in football and are usually excellent in basketball.

Also it may give us some recruiting possibilities in the Houston area and Ohio. That would help football more than basketball.

I agree with this and think it will be a shame when the Big 12 inevitably falls apart in order to suit its football interests.
