2019 Recruiting

They are in on a ton. We’ll see what happens!

Kinda falling into the same trap that we always do here... One of 10-30 schools that some guy kinda likes, we chase them all the way through the season, and end up fighting for bodies at the very end.

Not saying that is what will happen here, they may land all their primary or secondary targets, but it is interesting that at the end of seasons many criticize recruiting strategy when all these prospects don't sign with OU.

This year, OU landed Harmon VERY early which is unusual, so the class will be a success no matter what at this point.... but it seems like you start seeing OU in the running for some of these guys and everyone kinda takes the bait again.

With so many spots to fill, this is a very important class. If we sign two to three of our primary and secondary targets with players that compliment Da’Vion Harmon, and then fill the remaining spots with grad transfers or another transfer like Reaves, I will see this class as a success. Anything beyond that would be a bonus.

Dang! A 6’ 10” Big with range! Bangs inside, runs the floor well, finishes with either hand. Is there anything he doesn’t do well? Stats aren’t huge, but not bad for a freshman..

This should make thebigabd happy.

Good stuff you’re contributing, NAIA All Star! Thanks!

I am aware of him... plays for Casper CC, with another guy OU briefly recruited last year (along with OSU) who ended up going to South Florida (Antun Miracevic). He should be "the guy" this year at Casper and will be interesting to see what his numbers look like. Needs to get bigger but has another year of juco to do that.

Either way, will be interesting to see if he jumps on the offer. Kind of a case study. Going after an obscure Wyoming juco player while everyone else is chasing the big names. The theory only works assuming these guys are so happy to get an offer from OU early that they jump on it in the early period. That is basically the entire concept of my argument.

So you like the offer or no?

I hope he jumps on it. This kid’s skill set is head and shoulders better than the juco player we signed last year. If he adds a few pounds of muscle to his frame,OU may have a lot of competition for his services.

He is also impressive in his interview:

Yea, I do. Apparently he played really well at some juco recruiting event this summer. Good to know the coaches are scouting these things early in the process.

He was 6'7" coming out of high school so you'd like to think that he played the 3 quite a bit and grew into being a stretch 4 so his floor skills would be pretty decent.

To my untrained eyes this guy is very worthy of high D1 offers in spite of the questionable juco system. Any way to get him in this fall?

OU did not make the cut for Donovan Williams. The 2 is the spot OU seems to not really be in on top guys. I really think Chase Hunter is going to Georgia. Not a huge deal if they don't get one in this class with Bienemy & Reeves on the roster.

Big ups to NAIA for all the updates. I've already let Sam Williamson ship sail but I keep waiting for that breeze to turn around. I'll temper my forecast but I got think Harmon helps us win a prize or two.

I know the JUCO debate is a Volcanic topic on the board but JucoResource.com released their top 100 on August 3rd. #1 on their list is OU offer PF-Khalid Thomas, #2 in their ranking is OU newest offer F-Wilfried Likayi.

First off, anyone know how credible Juco resource is as a scouting/ranking site? If they are somewhat competent I think this has to be taken as a good sign. Who knows if either of them decide OU is the spot but you're kinda seeing the coaches cards as to how the ship situation might play out with a couple of upperclassmen on the board. I know that idea has been discussed here before but the #1 & 2 juco players that are both athletic bigmen seems like a good starting point. If anything, I think Kruger has a retreat or a timeshare in Idaho/Wyoming vicinity. Maybe Jackson's Hole, where the big dogs play?

Khalid Thomas was the guy I thought OU should be going after the hardest... He is 6'9'' with a silky smooth 3pt shot, and averaged great numbers on a team with 8 D1 players on it. He is the real deal. I wouldn't call him a big man though... He is like a guard, a real wing at 6'9''. He wouldn't play the 4. He's a 3.

If OU landed Thomas and Likayi and brought them in with Harmon, look out.... Classic OU recruiting class right there and a crazy looking team the next year.

PG: Devion Harmon/new signee
SG: Austin Reaves/Jamal Bienemy
SF: Khalid Thomas/new signee
PF: Brady Manek/Kristian Doolittle
C: Wilfried Likayi/Hannes Polla (interchangeable)

Go out and get two more guards.... shooter and a slasher type, and you've got yourself a team.

3 juco guys I linked on the front page of this thread... They fit in with the above 2 deep. Henry plays behind Thomas, Verge plays behind Harmon, and Thomas starts. :)

Khalid Thomas (6'9'' 202 - SF)
From College of Southern Idaho. Plays with about 6-8 other D1 players. Averaged 15 points and 6.5 rebounds per game as a freshman in 22 minutes per game. Shot 54% from the field and 42% from 3pt on 162 attempts.

Kayne Henry (6'6'' SG)
From San Jacinto College in Texas. Regularly sends players to high level D1. From England originally, has FIBA experience. Averaged 9 points and 3 rebounds per game as a freshman in 18 minutes per game.

Alonzo Verge (6'3'' 170)
From Moberly College in Missouri. Averaged 21 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds per game as a freshman at Moberly. 55% from the field and 32% from 3pt line. Was the Chicago player of the year in high school.

I know all about Khalid Thomas. He’s a stud! A 6’ 9” Super Star in the making. A volume three point shooter with a 41% average from behind the arc.

I was already sold on Thomas. Now I’m sold on Likayi. They have the ability to create problems for our opponents by doing work inside or stretching defenses to beyond the three point line. JUCO players or not, I would take those two in a heart beat.
