EDLAM MATCHUP SET FOR MCGUINNESS CLASSIC

Victories by Edmond Santa Fe and Edmond Memorial have set up the rivals for a semifinal showdown at the McGuinness Classic.

Five Wolves scored in double-figures as Santa Fe defeated Yukon 75-59 in Thursday's first round. Memorial edged Norman 59-53, powered by Kristian Doolittle's 31-point outing.

The Edlam matchup is set for 6 p.m. Saturday, followed by Norman North vs. Deer Creek in the other semifinal.

Deer Creek got 27 from Elyjah Clark in a 73-59 win over McGuinness, and Trae Young had 26 in Norman North's 76-55 win over Guthrie.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think there is a 'typo' error in the article. The Edmond Santa Fe vs. Edmond Memorial semifinal game is actually tonight (FRIDAY) at 6:30 PM. The article incorrectly reports the game at 6 p.m. Saturday.

There is a schedule in another part of the sports section.

Friday Semifinals
> 6:00 ... Edmond Santa Fe vs. Edmond Memorial (Kristian Doolittle's Team)
> 7:30 ... Deer Creek vs. Norman North (Trae Young's Team)

Good opportunity to go watch these young men compete.

Watching the Doolittle kid. We are getting a damn good one. 6'8" handles well, great court vision, nice stroke, filled out already. No clue if he can guard cuz they play a 3-2.

He is so smooth and under control. I can't wait to watch him grow under LK.

Thanks for the report, CM! I feel the same way about Doolittle.

Interesting that you mentioned how smooth he is. That's one of the first things I noticed when I saw part of one game and watched a highlight reel several weeks ago. Everything he does seems to come easy for him. That also makes me think he has a huge upside. Can't wait to see him in the C&C next year!

Honest mistake by AdaSooner. Doolittle doesn't have a lot of mixtapes because he committed to OU so early. I'm attaching one that he made over a year ago early in his junior year but he's a lot bigger now. I like his mid-range shot instead of just a video of dunks. Doolittle Mixtape

This one is from his HS sophomore year. Video from sophomore year

This is an interview with him last summer talking about his OU commitment. He's a big kid and does a good job in the interview. Doolittle interview

I hate it when I see high school teams exclusively play zone defense. No wonder some kids have a hard time learning to play man to man defense when they get to college.

Doolittle's 27 lift Memorial in Edlam battle

Edmond Memorial senior Kristian Doolittle says he wasn't always a good free throw shooter. It might be hard to convince Edmond Santa Fe of that after Doolittle scored nearly half of his 27 points at the free throw line in a 63-53 win over the Wolves in the semifinals of the 56th annual McGuinness Classic on Friday night. “Practice makes perfect,” the 6-foot-7 Doolittle said with a smile. “I just work on my free throw shooting every day, and it's paid off.”

The OU signee was 13-of-14 at the line and had 11 rebounds to send the 10th-ranked Bulldogs to the finals, where they'll face No. 5 Norman North for the second time this week. Norman North won Tuesday's meeting 71-65.

Payton Moore had 14 points, and Marlik Depp had 10 for Edmond Memorial. Kristoff Hayden led Santa Fe with 16 points, all in the second half.

NORMAN NORTH ROLLS PAST DEER CREEK

Norman North's big three did what they've been doing most of the season, and the Timberwolves cruised past Deer Creek 101-59 in the McGuinness Classic semifinals. Trae Young had 25 points, while Marcus Dickinson added 20 and Cameron Martin had 19. After battling some early season injuries, the Timberwolves are beginning to click.

“Cameron and Marcus had been injured. We got five guys from football, and four of them were injured when they got to us,” coach Bryan Merritt said. “We just hadn't practiced together much until recently.” With his team getting healthy, Merritt has been able to use a four-guard lineup this week, which has helped the offense increase its tempo. “When we go with four guards, we can put a lot of pressure on the other team,” Young said. “The speed of our game is a lot higher. We can get out and run more, and that's what we did tonight.”

also have to remember, you don't recruit in HS, you play what you are given. Never know who that coach has to cover up in the post or on the wing. While some kids may excel 1 on 1, not all of them will. Zone is one of the easiest ways to get a solid overall TEAM defense cause even limited players, knowing where and when they need to be, can help.
