2019 Recruiting

He's a terrific interview. I'm looking forward to the upcoming season, of course, but I cannot wait for next season.

I wonder if we would take both Etienne and Malik Hall?

I dont know... Pure speculation but I'd say no/yes.

The hard part is if Tyson wants to commit, How in the world do you turn away a top 50 player in Hall. My guess is you don't.

If Hall commits first, then you can justify saying Tyson, we're saving a spot for a grad transfer.

It would be very unwise to turn down a scorer/shooter like Tyson for a grad transfer IMO. I can see Tyson being like them Villanova guards in the last few years.

i tend to agree. They want a scorer as the final piece.

Victor and merritt are known for defense and motors.

Yeah, I just don't see any way that Lon would turn him and Hall down. Too talented. I can't remember the last time we had a chance to have this many high profile guys in one class. Capel? I know that didn't turn out well, but Lon will develop these guys.

Lon has landed some nice pieces. This is looking like the best class on paper that he's signed.

I'd like to see him fill the remaining spots with HS kids. I think there are guys on the current roster that will transfer, and if you're bringing in 6 kids in one class, just basic math says one or two of those guys will transfer. Plus, you never know with a guy like Harmon. If he plays well enough that he's a first rounder it's tough to turn that down.

Is Tyson Etienne no longer leaning toward OU. Rivals doesn’t show him as a CB any longer? Any news?

247 shows only 2 CB's for Etienne (both from 9/24) and they are both to Virginia Commonwealth.

Also I don't think the coaches want to go through the grind of recruiting 6 guys and have 2 of them transfer.

Nobody recruits with a 100% success rate. If 2 guys aren't cutting it, why wouldn't you want them to transfer? We have guys transfer every year.

Other than the blue bloods please name a team that competes for championships with 4-6 true freshmen playing significant minutes. Even KU, UK, Duke, UNC, etc. have their best seasons with some starting upperclassmen.

Name teams other than KU, UK, Duke, UNC, etc. that regularly compete for championships period. Also, name a school that's ever recruited 6 top 150 players other than those schools. Lastly, I'm not expecting to be competing for a championship next year.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about taking just any HS players. I'm talking about high quality players. If the choice is between bringing in somebody like Shepherd or a grad transfer with the 6th spot, then I'm all for the grad transfer. But if it's a guy like Harmon, Hill, or Iwuakor, I say bring them on.

I'm also unsure how much relevance "balancing the classes" truly has. We're not going to have 6 seniors on our roster from this class. The odds of Harmon staying 4 years are slim to none. It's also likely that 2-3 others will transfer (for a number of reasons) or go pro (Europe or NBA).

I understand kids' transfer but you don't want to recruit kids if you don't think they'll help and just transfer. I'm all for getting 6 hs guys if you think they will all be able to contribute at some point (which, to be fair, is what you stated). I think competition will bring out the best in guys and determining which ones are the real players, I expect Kuath or Merrit to transfer after one doesn't get minutes bc they are the same type of player in the same grade.

I can name 20 other schools who have competed for a championship the last 5 years other than those 4 but that wasn't my point. You said OU should have no problem getting 6 quality freshmen and have a good season bc Kentucky does, my point is OU can't compete with those types of teams if you're mainly relying on high impact freshmen. Of course some freshmen will help (Young & Manek) but I've never seen OU have a good year with most contributors as freshmen, that's why they need some balance in the classes.
