#21 OU @ #12 Baylor 8pm CST on ESPN2

I don’t think your expectations got out of whack. I mean unless you thought this was a top 10 team. But the talent is there to be top 25.
Man I don’t know. We have no play makers except soares and Moore. It’s hard to win when you 1 and 2 are not play makers

The talent clearly is not up to par. It’s pretty evident
Just another way to absolve excuse poor play. All offseason and through the noncon, people were falling all over themselves talking up the talent. Now, many of the same people are acting like we are Cinderella in a league of Goliaths.

We certainly don’t have any great players. But our top 8 guys are more than capable. Unfortunately, our three starting guards, who the board hyped incessantly, have all been awful. JM is facing elite competition for the first time, so that’s somewhat understandable. But Los and Oweh regressing like this is a huge indictment on player development.

Falling all over themselves? The consensus was that we upgraded big time. And we have.

Watching other teams in the league, our talent isn’t even close

It's up to the player clown. Buddy and cousins lived in the gym to improve, lon didn't force them

And here I thought coaches were paid in part to get the most out of their players. So I guess I’ve learned on this board that coaches shouldn’t be blamed for turnovers, undisciplined play, or the lack of development. What, then, do coaches do?

All offseason and through the noncon, people were falling all over themselves talking up the talent.

You've said this about 6,000 times in the past month and it's simply not true. In the offseason posters were hopeful but I don't recall anyone talking up the talent. They expressed hope that this portal crop was better than the last two. Y'know, like fans do. But no one was predicting greatness then. And even if they were, why does it bother you so much?

And even during the season -- who wouldn't get excited at our non-conference performance? We made the top 10 so the college hoops community at large was clearly impressed. But no one here was predicting we'd compete for the conference title or anything like it. They were just glad we had a more athletic team and yes, were dreaming and hoping for bigger things. Again, that's what fans do. But no one went over the top with it.

You are so deep in your Moser hatred that you've gone round the bend. I don't know how else to put it. As a poster, you're unrecognizable. I used to agree with you most of the time, but I'm this close to putting you on ignore. You consistently take the most negative position possible--over and over and over. It's exhausting. And I'm no Moser apologist. If given the power to decide right now if he leaves or stays after this season, I'm not sure what I'd do. I caught flak for ragging on him last season, but I was--and am--the King of Sunshine Pumpers sporting a giant pair of crimson glasses compared to you.

Wasn't our night on the road against a good team and we were shorthanded to boot. Find a way to win 2 games to lock up a big dance spot and hopefully we play the last game on Friday March 22nd so we can enjoy the first two full days of madness before we play!!

I’ve yet to watch a game where I felt like we were badly outclassed from an athleticism standpoint in the backcourt. Baylor might have the most NBA talent in the league, but it’s not like Moore and Soares and Oweh can’t hang with them. I have seen plenty of players who play smarter and more skillfully than our guys. I’ve also seen lots of teams run better offense than us. But this is not like last year where teams regularly made us look like we were in quicksand as they ran and dunked all over us. We have a good enough roster to not be losing a bunch of double digit games.

The only thread I really remember was the one claiming oweh was the best player in the league. I always took that as tongue in cheek

I said talent. Not athletes. Big difference.
But even then we aren’t really that athletic.

I’d consider Moore, oweh, and soares as big 12 athletes. Outside of them we aren’t that athletic

Still miles better than last year.

So you don’t think people were “talking up the talent” when we had people saying that both JM and Los are NBA players, AND there was an entire thread captioned “Oweh is the best guard in the league”? That was all just calm, reasoned, cautious optimism? How about the threads where people were predicting that we would/should sweep the bottom few teams in the league, and that we would likely only lose 1 or 2 home games? Simple math says that if we did both those things, we would win no fewer than 11 or 12 league games.

As for why it bothers me, it bothers me because people are entirely hypocritical. If you spend months praising the talent level and saying what a good job Moser did improving the roster, then it is ridiculous to turn around and excuse poor play and lopsided losses by pointing to our lack of talent relative to the rest of the league.

Ignore me all you want. I am tempted to ignore all the folks who incessantly whine about officiating, but I don’t because that would mean ignoring 90 percent of the board.

Lol you are just so far out there man. People praise the talent when it is warranted. No one really knows until the games are played. As more games are played and more data becomes available, opinions change. I guess we could all wait until after the season to discuss the team but what fun would that be?

What’s ironic is you are guilty of the exact same thing. You were not high on the talent but you hate moser. So now you have flipped to saying the talent is plenty good enough.

We are all biased in some degree. Some are more reasonable than others …

The Oweh thread was abd's and obviously hyperbolic, a joke--like so many of his posts. I don't think anyone took it seriously; I'm surprised you did. The Los thread was just someone sharing that he'd been mentioned in some draft projections column. There was no rush of excitement around it. And I don't recall anyone talking JM up as an NBA player; if one or two posters did, they were outliers. But even if your characterization of the discourse here over the past few months was accurate (it isn't), I have to wonder: Why do you care so much that a few posters got overenthusiastic? And of course expectations come back down to earth after a few disappointing losses. There's nothing hypocritical about that. It's human nature.

I flipped on Soares and Moore and have admitted as much. I expected that they would be athletic but not good basketball players. Turns out, they are both.

I agree to some extent that it’s fair to change opinions as more games are played, but I also think if you watched the noncon games closely and didn’t get caught up in the scores, you could see a lot of the underlying issues that are giving us trouble now that we are playing better teams. We were turning it over too often, didn’t have much shooting, and it was obvious that our inside play would be a challenge.

Like I said last night, if we finish above, or even at, .500, I’ll eat crow and acknowledge that is a very solid season for this team given the quality of the league. But other than the BYU game, we haven’t been playing well enough over the past three weeks to make me think 3 more wins are likely.

And yet many people hopped on that thread and talked about how good he was. I realize abd likes to have fun and he wasn’t being literal, but people clearly viewed Oweh as a stud.

As for Moser, I don’t hate him. I don’t know the man from Adam, and try to never form an opinion on a person I don’t know personally. I do readily admit to thinking he has done a crummy job coaching the Oklahoma basketball program. And I realize that will always offend certain people who think that any criticism of any OU player or coach is a sign of being a “bad” fan.

I would argue @ISU, but yeah I'm right there with you. Unless we came in and played a really clean game (few TOs and got hot from 3), we weren't going to win this game. Not to mention our defense has been garbage. I believe it further illustrates we need more a lot more talent to compete night in and night out at this level.

Yeah, winning at Hilton will be tough. We played them well at home, which gives me a bit more hope. Both in top 5 with Lawrence, UNC, and probably the home game against Houston.

At one point in this season, we played good defense. That appears to be long gone. Add a stale offense with poor ball movement and a lot of one on one crap, it’s a recipe for disaster.

What is Mosers system? I guess I thought the offense would at least be more efficient and less one guy trying to dribble past 4 defenders. The most disappointing thing for me tho, is defense. I really thought, if nothing else, we could hang our hat on playing tough defense. Nope.

I wouldn’t say that. They’re still a good defensive team. Just last week we were praising them for great second half defense against BYU.

The offensive system is abysmal and worse yet, I don’t think the guys on the roster fit it very well. He was very open about changing the offense to match the athletes he brought in but that has not show up in conference play. Right now the offense looks the exact same as last years.
