Blake ESPN article on the Capel firing...

Blake, I know you're defending your "friend" and all but...

"As you know, this program is in a very bad place right now. We have made many mistakes in recruiting, and it showed its head this season in many ways. We have had so much turnover since we have been here that it left (us) in a position where we really did not have any upperclassmen. Now, we will lose many guys from this year's team, and recruiting is not going as I anticipated.

"Also, how our guys conduct themselves when they get here, our reputation on campus, and in the community has taken a severe hit... "

Nicely done.:ez-laugh:

Look, Blake is great for Oklahoma and for the OU basketball program, but he has a very friendly relationship with Capel, who was a great player and an overall great guy.

But, Blake remembers what things were like when an amateur basketball team had a global superstar. That would be like Ohio State having Lebron James, or USC having Kobe Bryant, or UT having Dirk Nowitzki. Sure, they won while Blake was in Norman, but you cant go 13-18 back to back at OU and keep your job. Blake knows that.

The case against Capel was staggering, but Blake is obviously biased and remembering when he was out there putting 35/22 on everyone and they were winning.

That is the first reference I have seen to a Capel statement. Does anyone have the full one?

Maybe it's just me, but I don't really care what his opinion is.

i think that was taken from an interview previously... i don't think he has put out a statement since yesterday....

Well, most of us here do care! Blake is wrong in this case. But he's a great Sooner and he has a right to his opinion. Unlike the majority of people on this board, he earned it.

If Blake only knew what kind of bulls*** this program had to endure after he left then he might change his opinion.

This.

Two things. First, Blake wasn't around for the good years. He doesn't understand the tradition OU had of going to the Dance pretty much every year for the better part of what, 12 years? He just doesn't get that. Second, I'm sick and tired of people throwing the word "sanctions" around like OU had multiple tough sanctions over multiple years. They amounted to NOTHING. Capel couldn't recruit off campus for a few months, and we lost 2 scholarships (I think) that we weren't going to use anyways. It's unreal how our "sanctions" have taken on a life of their own. Please.

You don't really think you know more about what went on for the last two years than Blake does, do you?

DAMMIT!

This just confirms what I suspected about Blake for some time...that he's a good-hearted, loyal kid.

Thank you! Blake is just taking up for his friend, as we all would. Nothing more, nothing less.
