In a three-way tie for second place in the Big 12, No. 25/25 Oklahoma (15-4, 4-2) travels to Lubbock, Texas, to take on Texas Tech (10-9, 2-4) on Saturday at 3 p.m. CT at United Spirit Arena. The Sooners, who have won three of their last four games (two of those wins came against top-12 opponents), are coming off a 77-69 home triumph over TCU on Wednesday. The Red Raiders are 8-3 at home this season and are coming off an 87-81 loss at West Virginia on Wednesday.
ON THE AIR
Saturday’s contest will air on the Sooner Radio Network (KRXO 107.7 FM "The Franchise" in Oklahoma City; KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa) with Toby Rowland and Mike Houck calling the action. The game will be televised by the Big 12 Network (KOCB Channel 34 in OKC; KMYT Channel 41 in Tulsa; WatchESPN) with Brad Sham and Stephen Howard announcing.
THE SERIES
Oklahoma owns a 33-20 all-time record against Texas Tech and is 11-13 in the series in Lubbock. OU swept the season series last year, winning 81-63 at home and 86-71 on the road (the victory in Lubbock snapped a three-game losing streak there).
PREVIEWING TEXAS TECH
Texas Tech enters Saturday’s game at 10-9 overall and in eighth place in the Big 12 at 2-4. The Red Raiders have won two of their last three games (82-72 over then-No. 12 Baylor and 60-49 at TCU). They are 8-3 at home with their losses coming to LSU (71-69), Iowa State (73-62) and West Virginia (89-86 in overtime). In conference play, Tech ranks eighth in scoring (72.5 ppg), fourth in scoring defense (72.8 ppg), second in field goal percentage (.467), third in 3-point field goal percentage (.394) and second in free throw percentage (.769).
On the season, senior forward Jaye Crockett leads the team with his 14.3 points and ranks second with his 6.4 boards a contest while shooting .562 from the field. In Big 12 play he is averaging team highs of 15.8 points and 6.8 boards. Junior forward Jordan Tolbert averages 11.9 points and a team-high 6.5 rebounds on the year while shooting a team-best .584 from the floor. Junior guard Robert Turner is averaging 10.2 points and a team-high 2.9 steals an outing, while sophomore guard Dusty Hannahs contributes 8.9 points a game. Hannahs is coming off a 7-for-7 performance from 3-point range at West Virginia on Wednesday (finished with 25 points, six assists and no turnovers in 33 minutes off the bench). The 3-point effort set a Big 12 record for most makes without a miss.
Tubby Smith is in his first year as Texas Tech’s head coach. Formerly the head coach at Tulsa, Georgia, Kentucky (1998 NCAA champion) and Minnesota, he owns a 521-235 (.689) career mark.
