OU @ #6 ISU 7pm CST on ESPN+

I understand the feeling of disappointment but your last statement is bizarre
It's pretty simple. They came in at the same time. Both had some talent on campus when they arrived. Coach B managed to keep much of that talent; Coach Moser, less so.

They both had the portal to work with and Jennie's made it work for her. Porter, not so much. Jennie's had three excellent seasons, two of them with conference titles. It'll be three straight years in the tourney for her; Porter, we don't know yet, but we do know there'll be no conference title.

Jenny's teams have gotten better as each season has progressed and again, her portal additions have worked out. Porter, not so much on either point.

All of the excuses that have been offered to defend Porter's so far disappointing results applied to the women's team when Coach B. arrived on campus, but she has thrived. Texas, who was ranked #3 in the country, had the Sooners on the ropes more than once in tonight's game--they led by as much as 15 and the margin was double digits for much of the game. But the Sooner women play with grit and toughness and never give up. And they beat their rivals--her teams are 9-3 against texas and oswho. And this year's team goes 10-11 deep.

Her teams have been everything we hope the men's team can be--resilient, tough, fast-paced, entertaining, high-scoring, a good rebounding team. Overachieving.

Kudos to the women! Atleast one OU basketball team is achieving its goals!

Atleast we can put the “it’s the program’s fault” stuff to rest. The girls team has to play in the same stadium with fewer support than the men’s and they still have success. The same thing can happen for the guys too when they get the right coach in there.

It really makes no difference who the head coach is if you have a roster without one single player who can make a basket when we need one. Obviously, the head coach is responsible for the roster he puts together...but all this talk of strategy, offensive movement patterns, etc, are a waste of time if no one can shoot. No matter how the remaining part of this season plays out, Moser needs to find one player who can make a shot when we absolutely need a basket. This is beyond frustrating. He may need help from the administration to come up with some money to make the product a little better.

I was watching Jennie B and the women's team back in December against North Carolina. That team couldn't shoot, either...really struggled with OOC play...and look at how much they improved. The first two years, she was led by mostly Sherri's players, but has her imprints all over this team. She is going to be on some short lists for openings this offseason. If DePaul wants Moser, there will be little resistance on OU's side...but he's not going to be sought after like Jennie.

Boeheim was on The DP Show this week saying the same thing. NET is not near the influence many think it is and is greatly flawed.
Neither he nor Davis are bracket guys. Davis is flat wrong when he says all quad one wins/losses are the same. Again, all this info is available on the team sheets.

The Nolan Johnson offense was more creative than Moser's...
I know you are saying this somewhat tongue in cheek, but it’s very true. That strategy utilized the specific and somewhat rare skill set of a particular player on a night when OSU made life difficult on Najera. And like Kelvin said in the postgame quotes, it was a game plan that he wouldn’t have used earlier in the season because Johnson wouldn’t have been capable of delivering.

Meanwhile, Majerus lite keeps doing the same thing over and over. Walk it up the floor, no ball movement, tons of screens, and letting JM try to play one on one even though we now have 15 games of proof that he can’t do that successfully in this league. And as someone noted last week, it’s almost impossible to believe that we are largely using the same system we did when we had last year’s team, despite a significantly different roster with much different athleticism.

Out average margin of defeat is over 12 per game. That’s astounding in a league where everyone talks about how every game seemingly comes down to the wire. Take away the Tech game, and every one of our losses was functionally over with at least 5 minutes left.

Care to explain why?
Because it makes Moser look bad and Coach will never blame a coach no matter how bad he is.

I’ll note one way it isn’t fair: Jennie inherited a 12-win team and a program that was in dramatic decline. Three years in, she has two conference titles and three tournaments, all with fairly high seeds. I don’t follow them as closely, but I’ve not heard her make excuses about the talent she inherited or talk about how difficult a situation she stepped into. I’ve also seen that she came in and immediately installed a very clear system. No one can watch them for even five minutes and not have a very clear understanding of how she wants to play and what she is trying to accomplish.

There should also be some off the ball movement like screens

Can yall atleast get on the same page before posting? It in confusing when you guys agree so often but post contradictory things.

LOL at saying there is no ball movement while admitting to not watching the games.

Anyone that says we are just dribbling around is pretty ignorant

Ball movement isn’t the same as ball screens, first of all. Watch our offense. How many times does the ball change sides each possession? We spent most of last night getting trapped on one side of the floor. I recall one possession where we actually moved it side to side a couple times and lo and behold, that resulted in one of our three made 3s. Otherwise, it’s Los or JM standing out top dribbling. And dribbling. And dribbling some more.

The lucky last possession in Stillwater is another example. When OSU took away our first option, which was JM driving, the reason he ended up heaving a prayer was because the other four guys were essentially spectators. No one was really cutting or otherwise moving. How difficult is it to play defense when the ball never changes sides and four of the players may as well be traffic cones given how little they move?

Right. But we have 1 moser hater saying we need more screens and another saying all we do is a ton of screens.

Yall are just throwing crap at the wall.
It all comes down to making shots. We are a poor shooting team. If more shots go in, all of a sudden the ball movement looks good. Because believe it or not, we do move the ball around A LOT more than I remember with LK

I’ll try to go slow: are you aware that you can set screens away from the ball to free up players?

And if you think we move the ball a lot, I don’t even know what to tell you. You should chart out games and count how many possessions the ball gets to the third side.

I am aware of that. Again, we have one poster saying we need to set more screens and another that says we set a ton of screens. Both are moser haters and it shows the ridiculous bias against Moser as the haters just choose something and throw it out there without really knowing wth they are talking about.

I would rather not spend the time charting possessions. Feel free to yourself. You could do it with all the free time you have from not posting when we were ranked in the top 10

Mens basketball is more competitive than women’s. It takes far more commitment from the fans/donors to be a top men’s team. The best men’s teams are paying well over $1million per year in NIL alone. They all have good venues full of fans. Ou is not competitive in these factors w the top programs. Until that changes, it is ridiculous to expect us to be better than those programs.

Well “movement” can mean a lot of things. Not just ball movement. Obviously you just can’t pass around the perimeter because the defense will pack it in. But, I would rather have guys passing the ball around the perimeter than just one guy dribbling around for forever.

There should also be some off the ball movement like screens, cutting, curling, etc. any movement makes the defense think and have to defend something. But too many times OU’s offense is one guy dribble around and everybody watches.

The answer isn’t necessarily easy but let’s not pretend like it’s trigonometry. Moser has enough knowledge, resources and gets paid enough to figure it out. But he’s proving incapable.
All of those off-ball actions - screens, cutting, curling are easy to defend if all 5 defenders are inside the arc. And those types of offenses are being phased out from the game. Look at the pro level, offense is being homogenized to spread defenses out, run a high ball screen or some variation of Spain PnR/ Stack PnR/ 5 out drive and kick. There is a good book I'd recommend anyone to read - Spaced Out by Mike Prada. The goal of an efficient offense is to force the defense to guard more of the court and to shoot the majority of their shots at the rim or from 3. 87% of our shots are at the rim or from 3 (46th in the nation and significant improvement from Lon's offenses per ShotQuality). The process is fine behind the offense. If anything, they should probably embrace more variance. Shoot more 3s and embrace being a make or miss team.

Running a style of offense similar to the pros is good for player development and recruiting. If Porter stays, the coaching staff will have their work cut out for them in developing players this offseason. That's why you hire a guy like Paul Jesperson from the Atlanta Hawks.
